Coronavirus Measures in Place
At Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana, we have been closely monitoring all the news and data related to the COVID-19 virus. Based on the initial information, we added sanitizing measures and recommendations, instituted some common sense social distancing, and communicated with volunteer and paid staff, as well as program participants, reminding them to stay home if experiencing any symptoms of viral illness.
It has become evident that these measures alone are no longer sufficient to keep our higher risk population safe. Based on the direction from our local health department, in accordance with state officials and CDC guidelines, Gilda’s Club has made the difficult decision to cancel upcoming fund raising events and cancel all clubhouse and off site program offerings through April. We will continue support groups via a virtual online connection accessible from any smart phone or computer. We will provide tele-support and offer other program virtually. We will continue to welcome new members and work with individuals and families one on one as appropriate via telephone. Given the quickly evolving nature of this health threat, we will continue to monitor daily and make additional changes as needed. We will update you as these changes occur.
Our goal is, of course, is to return to regular programming both in and out of the clubhouse as soon as it is safe to do so. We thank you for your patience and support as we navigate this unique situation with the urgency our families living with cancer deserve.
